The Berlin label Berberlin, founded by Julia von Schauenburg-Kacem and Walid Kacem, has turned the passion into a profession. Visits to Walid’s family in Tunisia and many kilos of excess luggage with handicrafts made the beginning. Back in Berlin the treasures collected on bazaars such as carpets, cushions & Co were spread in the apartment and soon found many admirers. When they received the first private orders they had the idea to build a family-friendly business and to found a label. This is now three years ago and three sons and many carpets later Berberlin develops magnificently and is a true family business. Walid’s Tunisian roots help to establish contacts with the individual Berber peoples, and Julia, with her sense for colors and patterns, picks up particularly beautiful and individual rugs. At the same time they help Berber women maintain their traditional carpet weaving skills by acquiring and distributing the carpets on fair terms. If you enter the new showroom in Berlin Kreuzberg, you fall into a true color and pattern rush and would like to take all the carpets home to your home – alone, we lack the space.
