Japonism 2.0. Fascinated by its minimalistic style, since the 1920s, the land of the rising sun – Japan. We love the new styles and the old classics. Minimalistic, clear designs and the highest craftsmanship are brought together and allow form and material to speak for themselves, without ignoring the essential – the function. Fine woods, paper and silk which have always been used in Japanese interiors, are coming back into focus. Wood is shown in its purest form, natural grains are emphasized, as in the case of the bowl ‘Krams’ by Kommod, or refined by an elaborately produced polished lacquer surface. Contrasting contours are applied – round, softly curved silhouettes, like those of the ‘Butterfly’ stool by Isamu Noguchi stand next to the compact and straight forms of the ‘Farmer’ side table by Moooi. We find the cushions from Yukata-Kimono to be beautiful and unique. They make use of the finest vintage kimono and obi silks, which with their matt-glossy surface, deepen and intensify the classic play of colours of black, white and red shades. Not only motifs such as blossoms and Asian landscapes but also geometric-abstract patterns adorn these little silk treasures. Isamu Noguchi created modern lampions from filigree wire constructs. Covered with translucent rice paper, these design classics spread a warm and subtle light. Ceramics is an important part of the Japanese tradition, but also of today’s daily culture.  Inspired by Zen, objects which have a distinctive sculptured appearance are created in earthy-black stoneware.
